Farmer Earn more income from Orchard
Hanuman Ram Ranwa, aged 47 year, a hardworking farmer from village Maulasar of Didwana block in Nagaur district (Rajasthan) gained economic empowerment through adoption of fruit orchard. A 10th class passed, Hanuman Ram had a progressive streak in his nature and used to cultivate majorly cereal crops like wheat and bajra and onion in vegetables. But, due to decline in water table his production suffered and income declined.
KVK Intervention
Hanuman Ram came in contact of KVK, Maulasar which was established in March, 2012. After sharing his problem with KVK, the scientist suggested him to diversify his cropping pattern by establishing fruit orchard. He was encouraged by the advantages of fruit cultivation as they are perennial in nature, would provide higher and continuous return and require lesser water and labour as compare to traditional crops. Hanuman Ram participated in various trainings organized by KVK and learned all the nuances of topic. Looking at the water scarcity in this area, KVK also suggested and trained him in drip irrigation technique. Being an early adopter, Hanuman Ram adopted the technology and first he constructed water harvesting structure than he established pomegranate orchard in 5 ha. area on March, 2015 and laid down drip irrigation system. He conducted regular and timely cultured operations like pruning and training, bahar control, fertigation, weed control, fertigation and disease and pest management as per KVK’s guideline.
Impact
Before intervention, Hanuman Ram earned Rs 1.50 lakh per hectare which significantly increased to Rs. 7 lakh per hectare. He also planted marigold plant between pomegranate plants for nematode control as soil of this area is heavily infested by nematodes and earned additional income. His determination and hard work led him to become an inspiration in this area. Recently, he constructed a polyhouse (4000 sqm) and bio-gas plant also. He is being recognized as a progressive farmer and is playing a significant role of a lead farmer in area by dissemination new and advanced agricultural technologies to fellow farmers.

Impact
Impact of technologies transferred/disseminated- Cases of large scale adoption
- The emphasis on pulse production in the district was given by the KVK through trainings and FLDs on green gram, & chickpea and supply of improved seed of pulses crops. In the year 2017-18 the cultivation of green gram was reached up to 5 lakh hectares in the district.
- To improve the knowledge of the farmers regarding seed spices and medicinal plants especially cumin and isabgol and also on Onion, KVK provided technical support to the farmers through trainings and demonstrations resulted in 70, 50 and 1 thousand hectares cultivation area of cumin, isabgol and Onion respectively during the year 2017-18.
- To popularize gum production technology in Kummat by distribution of ethephone injection to 1750 farmers.
